Professor in the School of Law John Packer is the Director of the Human Rights Centre at Essex University. Before taking up this post pre 2007, he was the project coordinator and principal investigator for the global Initiative on Conflict Prevention through Quiet Diplomacy as well as acting as a consultant to several international organisations, governments and NGOs.
John Packer has an extensive publication record and is an internationally recognised expert in the field of minority rights and conflict prevention
His research interests include Protection of Minorities and Diversity Management; Economic, Social and Cultural Rights; Public International Law; International Peace and Security; Conflict Prevention/Resolution/Management; Mediation; International Organisations; Democratic Transition; Central & Eastern Europe and Former Soviet Union; Middle East.
