The British National Party: the roots of its appeal

Democratic Audit has organised the production of a research paper, The British National Party: the roots of its appeal.

The paper draws on extensive research funded by the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust. The paper was launched at the Foreign Press Association in London on 24 April 2006. Speakers included Jon Cruddas MP and Eric Pickles MP.

The report contains analysis of evidence from opinion polls, eight specially commissioned exit polls, four focus groups and research carried out at the School of Public Policy, UCL, into aggregate local authority and ward level data from a sample of 158 wards in 26 local authority areas.

The report shows that the BNP goes into the May 2006 local elections seeking to build on its successes in the 2005 general election and 2004 European elections and to win up to 40 seats on local councils across the country.
